BONFIRE CREATIVE CHILDREN'S CLASSES
This class exposes children to foundational movement themes (time, space, levels, shapes, flow, etc) through games, music, story and more. Guided dance improvisation and locomotive technique inspire students to create dances individually and in groups. Creative Dance provides children with sensory stimulation and a creative outlet--both necessary for healthy brain development--promoting self-confidence and social-emotional learning.
Yoga creatively adapted for children’s curious minds and developing bodies. Classes are enhanced by imaginative play and storytelling, partner poses, breathing awareness and relaxation exercises. Drawing inspiration from music, art, literature, nature and health, the students are inspired to channel their ideas into movement in a supportive, fun, and affirming environment. Games, discussion, intention and reflection focus on social emotional “soft skills” necessary for healthy whole-child development.
Ballet is for everybody! In a positive and non-competitive environment, we practice positions of the feet and arms, basic ballet technique, locomotive movement, and creative improvisational dance. Music, stories, design and visual art are interwoven into the fabric of ballet’s history, and are used in class to enhance the students’ understanding of ballet as an art form. Gendered descriptions (“tiptoe like a princess”) are avoided in class; rather, the movement is described and embodied, and children are encouraged and empowered to create and take ownership of their experience as they begin their study of ballet.
Laughter, challenge, health and community-building through active and engaging movement games. With games and activities curated from around the world, we play in small groups, pairs and as a whole to promote healthy attitudes toward winning, losing and peace-building within the micro-community of the class. Good sportsmanship, creative problem-solving and teamwork are encouraged. Active movement games promote balance, coordination, strength, spatial reasoning and an enhanced mind-body awareness. Classes begin with an ice-breaking activity and end with the opportunity for each student to reflect and share about their experiences.
Art in Motion
Multisensorial art experiences that fulfill a child’s need for creation, movement and expression. Classes begin with observing a work of art to spark curiosity and conversation. Connections discovered between the visual art and expressions like dance, music, theater, and literature prompt short warm-up activities that prepare children to let their imaginations run wild with various mediums. While emphasis is on process and not product, kids will enjoy taking home their creation to display or to give as a gift. Additional material fees apply.
